Tiger Sharks are strong, powerful sharks that are the ocean's second largest apex predator. These heavy sharks are often found on both shallow reefs and in the deep pelagic waters. Mature Tiger Sharks can reach as much as 18 feet in length and have been recorded weighing in at over 3,000 pounds. These normally slow swimming, deliberate creatures are able to accelerate to fast speeds in the blink of an eye. Tiger Sharks often show cautiousness when approaching divers, but can be completely unpredictable in a wild setting. Tiger Sharks are known to be prolific scavengers, eating almost anything they come across. Their main prey items include other fish, other sharks, birds, squid, whales, dolphins, and their delicacy, sea turtles.
